Miscellaneous Monday Memories
Six years ago these smiling faces were all still snug in their mommy's bellies. It's amazing to think how much they've changed, and grown over the years. Baby Big Girl is the oldest of the group, even though she's the smallest. Next to her we have Mowgli, who was born in November. After that is the Pretty Princess who has a December birthday. These little angels are the babies of their family, and they each know it! :)

Family Pictures
This one is our absolute favorite of the entire family. We love how you can really see both the size, and the personality of each girl. I'm really happy with the location, and color choices we made.

The Crazy Cat Family
You know...THAT family......yeah, that's us. I'm not sure how it really even came about, but we are those people now. We talked about getting a pet, as someone who grew up with animals I really felt like my girls were missing out on the joy that they bring you. The Boy never had any animals growing up due to an allergy his mom has, but I knew if I could just convince him that he would fall in love with some kind of something that was cuddly and had fur. We'd tried fish before and he hated them, and their tank.
Finally we settled on the fact that we don't really enjoy picking up huge piles of poo, and since I'm not really a fan of little dogs that eliminated that. Fine, a cat it is! We eagerly looked up cats online, trying to find one we could all agree on. After a few days we found a set of brothers that were looking for a family. We called and we're told that we could be placed on a list of potential adopters and we would be the second family to view. The first family took them both. We were pretty sad since we had let ourselves become pretty attached to those little guys even without holding them in real life.
The following weekend the local SPCA held an adoption event, and The Boy and I went over to see if we found anyone that seemed like they'd fit in. We were pretty sure we wanted a male cat, color didn't much matter, but he had to be friendly, playful and able to deal with the kids. There were SO many cats there! We wandered around cages, and tables full of crates of kittens. We found a few that we liked, and we held and played with all different ages.
After walking around for a while The Boy looks at me and asks "Do you see any that you like?" My response "I want them ALL!" ((perhaps I'm just the crazy cat lady?)) Of course, like he usually does, The Boy reigned me in with his logic and such, reminding me that we came for a SINGLE cat, not a house full. We wandered around again, and came upon our first little guy. Grey stripes and literally climbing the cage door to play with us, Gambit won us over right away. At only three months old he was so playful, and wanted to run and swat at everything. We filled out his adoption paperwork, and made arrangements to pick him up after his surgery the next day. In our county you're required to neuter/spay any adopted animals.
We left there feeling so happy, but as we drove away we both began to feel like it wouldn't be fair to bring home one lonely cat. It wasn't likely that he would be alone often, but what about when he was. Would he be sad? Cry? We decided that we wanted another. We went over to PetsMart, as they were having an adoption event there as well. We looked through the handful of cages there, but I couldn't get the little orange tabby out of my mind. I told him I wanted to go back and see if he was still available.
We returned to the SPCA, but sadly my little orange tabby had just been adopted by another family. I was heartbroken, but we continued to look around. When I seen Jupiter I knew it was meant to be. He & Gambit are from the same litter, and they are so happy together. The woman at the SPCA was thrilled to see that we were back to adopt another cat, and she happily helped us fill out another adoption packet.
A few years later, there was a cat who had been abandoned at the church that the girls took classes at a few times a week. We'd seen him there for a while, and of course the kids at school all loved him, but finally the church said he had to go. Apparently the preschool's sandbox had started attracting a ton of attention from the neighborhood cats since he was there. The kids all called him Cheetos, since he seemed to have a fond appreciation for lunch box chips. We talked Daddy into letting him come live with us, but he said we couldn't call him Cheetos. In the end we settled on Jaxon Moses. He rode on the dashboard of the truck on the way home, and has declared Nanners as his personal favorite since then.
Most recently we adopted Penny, our only female. She's a purebred Bengal cat, and she's all sass. Incredibly vocal, and rather much for the boys to deal with they avoid her at all costs. Except when she gets her food. Penny is a little underweight, so she gets wet food mixed into her kitten food and Gambit can't resist.
In addition to our 4 inside, we have Scrappy the one eyed tom who has been coming around for years; Squish the grey and white scaredy cat; Chunk a fluffy, solid black line backer of a tom; Stash a good sized black and white tuxedo tom who is afraid of his own shadow; Mama the one who brought Squish; Stash, Chunk & Seaba here, and last but not least Seaba, the family baby. Seaba is from the last litter Mama had and she is crazy for attention. She'll actually stand at the back door and scratch trying to get someone to come out and play.
The 6 porch cats came here on their own.Scrappy started coming around about a year after we moved here, and is the most loving feral I've ever seen. Mama cat showed up one day, and we fed her since she was pregnant, I just couldn't starve her. Next thing we know, she's not pregnant anymore, and we can't find the babies. About six weeks later Chunk, Squish, Stash and one other kitten show up with her. The unnamed kitten left, but the others all stayed around. The goal this spring is to get Mama cat fixed. The problem is that she's really aggressive, and extremely feral. No matter what Mom and I have decided that she's getting snipped this spring, even if it means taking some scratches in the process.
Somehow we ended up being the crazy cat family, and it's too late to turn back now. Poor Daddy........

It's 4am and I'm Cooking Chicken
Oh, yes, you read that right. It is indeed 4 am and I'm still up cooking chicken. It seems as though some small person let themselves into the freezer today, but neglected to actually shut the door all the way after pilfering what I'm sure was a frozen doughnut out of it.
Left it OPEN!
Of course this wouldn't happen on a weekend when I don't already have to work all day, nooooo, that would be too easy. It happens at the start of what appears to be one of the busiest weeks this summer to date. I tell ya, they are lucky I've learned how to drink coffee.
(Even if my brothers, best friend and mother all tell me it's not actually coffee if I have to add so much creamer and sugar to it)
It serves me right really. This afternoon at work I got on the scale to find out that I have indeed gained 5 pounds, despite my need to hike up my pants every few steps. We'll just pretend I've gained muscle, okay? Thanks! Then after finally arriving home, at 1:20am I tell myself that I'm going to grab a quick snack and head to bed. That's when things went south. Quickly.
Stepping into a Popsicle puddle as I reach for the handle of the freezer door, I see that things are going to be ugly. As I pulled it open I silently prayed that it would just be the Popsicles that thawed.
Reluctantly I began smooshing my fingers into the meat, and began thinking foul words in my head. Foul, foul words full of frustration. Enough foul words for 50 pounds of chicken, 1 bag of chicken nuggets, 4 London Broil steaks and a rack of pork spare ribs. That my friends is why I am up cooking chicken and it's 4 am. The cats think I've lost it and can't figure out why the front door is open this late at night.
In good news ----I'm nearly caught up on laundry! (don't rain on my parade I'm trying to find some positive in this, ummm kay?)

How Quickly Life Can Change

I've debated whether or not to write about this, finally I decided that if it stops one person, just one, from making the same mistake that stole someone that we loved away from us, then it's truly worth it in the end.
On October 9, 1991 the world became a brighter place. My family was blessed with my cousin Krystal. As the days turned into years, Krystal grew into a beautiful, intelligent, bright young woman. A young woman with dreams, aspirations and a strong desire to make those dreams a reality. Everything about Krystal exclaimed sunshine, fun and happiness. Her favorite color - ORANGE - seriously how can you not be happy when you see such a bright cheerful color.
On May 14, 2011, my families world was rocked in a way it has never been. Krystal was killed in a terrible car accident. An accident that could have been prevented in so many ways. The same woman who was a candy striper at a local hospital, is now being mourned by all those who knew her. The same woman who just finished her first semester in collage will now never make her dreams of becoming a nurse a reality.
Her favorite color is draped across her family in so many ways. Ribbons, flowers, tshirts, bracelets, you name it. All in her memory, all to show her that we care. The family left behind to mourn her, to long for her smiling face, to wish for one more chance to say I love you came together in a way that was unbelievable........all for her. All for Krystal.

We truly believe that she is dancing in the golden streets of Heaven with the Lord. She is watching from above. She knows that we love her, that we mourn for her and that we will never give up her memory.
Rest In Paradise Krystal Somer, our worlds will never be the same without you.
Don't let a day go by without telling the ones you love just how much they mean to you. Don't let life separate you. Take that extra day off of work to spend the day at the park with the family. Don't let months go by before you realize it's been that long. Don't let someone you love pass away without knowing that you care.
Don't for one moment think that if her parents, her siblings, her family, her friends could have even just one more second with her they wouldn't jump at the chance.

31 Day Photo and Post Challenge - Day 21
Day 21 - Something I like about myself There are lots of things I like about myself, I suppose.
While I'm sure some people will always disagree with me I think I'm fun, friendly and fabulous! LOL!
No seriously, I have learned a lot over the last year, and I've taken back my old opinion that sometimes it's fun to dance in the rain and run against the wind I buried deep down when I thought I wasn't doing it right.
It doesn't matter what other people think about our family. What matters is that we are happy, healthy and love one another.
If Spunky Girl wants to wear brown polka dotted leggings with a red and black floral dress and her favorite pink snow boots one day, I can now let her. I'm not saying I'm not gonna laugh too, I'm just saying that I've learned to let things like that go. With my first 2 girls they never left the house without looking just so. Matching dresses with matching Mary Janes and their hair was done in perfect little bouncy pigtails. Over this last year I've learned to let the girls dress themselves, help out around the house more - even if it's not done *my way* and take people up on those offers of help. Overall what's that mean? Well to me it means that I've hung up the Super Mommy/Wife cape and I'm just me now. And you know what - I like that about myself! Besides I never got around to sewing up the matching spandex tights (do Spanx fit under those things?) and mod podeging the perfect glittery boots! ;)

Guess I'm Doing Something Right
While I was in scrubbing down the girls bathroom today, I thought I better go check on the littles since the big girls were doing their independent work. I walked into the kitchen to find Baby Big Girl perched on the counter, singing "He's got the whwooole wowrldD in Him hanz".
Now prior to child 3, I would have probably freaked out, yelled and starting running across the room. Nope not anymore. I've learned that, with my girls at least, that reaction usually ends up causing more trouble than staying calm.
I ask her what is is exactly she's doing. She looks at me contently, and replies, "I'm cweaning the dishes Mama", with bubbles up to her elbows and a little blue scrubber in her hands.
ADORABLE!!
It's so nice sometimes to get confirmation that what we're trying to teach them is actually sinking in. Now I wish I would have just grabbed the camera.

50 Little Known Facts About Us

So many of the blogs I read are doing this right now, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and toss mine out there too. Yep, totally copying them. ;) Okay not totally since I'm doing the family, and they did themselves. I'm boring, I don't have 50 things about just me. :)
1. My favorite color is emerald green. For some reason most people think it's purple, I have no idea why though, I don't even own purple stuff.
2. I lived in the south until I was 9, and there are times when I miss it. Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the bugs, humidity or other nasties but I do miss it.
3. I've been on the West Coast for practically ever now, and still root for a southern college football team - ROLL TIDE!
4. I give my kids cupcakes or left over pizza for breakfast when they ask for it, simply because it's easy.
5. I almost never shave my legs.
6. I don't wear shorts. See #5
7. I love to write. It's my thing, which is why it's so hard to understand when other people don't like it.
8. I strongly dislike math - I mean STRONGLY. Not in my top 10 favorite things to do for sure.
9. I love making list. Seriously it's like an addiction, my husband laughs at me.
10. I love shooting families, but don't like weddings. I know, weddings are "money makers", but they are also incredibly stressful and make my stomach hurt.
11. I didn't start driving until my husband and I started dating. I was 20.
12. I've known my husband nearly half my life. (HOLY COW!)
13. I sometimes get a little joy out of the stupid comments I get when people find out we homeschool.
14. I get that same joy out of the stupid comments they say when they find out how many kids we have.
15. I don't think that we are a "huge" family. Seriously, there's only 7 of us.
16. I would totally have another child if my husband wanted to. Without question, I would do it.
17. I didn't drink on my 21st birthday.
18. I got into my first car wreck before I had my license. Yes, I know, bad. No one was hurt, except my car that was purchased one month to the day prior.
19. I'll totally look you up on the internet to see if I can find anything else out about you.
20. I have no sense of direction. None. It's really bad.
21. The Boy has an amazing sense of direction and always knows where he is.
22. The Boy also was born and raised till 8 yrs old in the south.
23. The Boy took the blame for my 1st car wreck. Ouch, yeah, he did. LOVE HIM!
24. I only dated one boy that didn't have blue or green eyes, ever. Seriously that was one of my things. The Boy has beautiful blue eyes.
25. I moved out of my mom's when I was 15.
26. I met The Boy a few months later, online.
27. I cried when The Boy told me he was moving away when I was 16, even though we weren't dating.
28. I dyed my bangs pink and blue stripes when I was in 7th grade.
29. I have a crazy obsession with fun socks. I only wear fun socks, but I don't like them because they're too thin so I wear regular Hanes under them.
30. I didn't want any boys. I mean it, and I don't care if it sounds mean. I truly only wanted girls. Of course I would have loved my son greatly, but my girls are my world. Love them to pieces.
31. I wouldn't mind a boy now. Seriously, I know. It took a long time, but I'm now ready for a boy. Problem is The Boy is done now.
32. I wanted to be a nurse before I had kids. I love medically stuff, lol - like that technical term!
33. I'm a little freaked out that I haven't accomplished my "list", you know the one that you set for yourself. I had one that I set for myself to finish by the time I was 30. I'll be there in a few months. The list isn't complete. I'm trying not to stress about that one!
34. The Boy would make a fantastic football coach. I'd totally move to a smallish town (hey a girl has to have options on where to shop and let's face it small towns have very few options) to let him full fill that one.
35. I never wanted to be a stay at home mom. I love it now. At least on most days.
36. Beanie broke her nose when she was little. How - jumping on her bed. She hit a shelf that was above it and the shelf fell on her nose. I'm guessing the little toy she was trying to get to wasn't worth it.
37. I don't think that all babies are cute. I said it. Hey I'm not being mean, Baby Big Girl look quite alienish when she was born. Totally had to do the if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all thing when I seen her the first time.
38. I would love a big ol' plot of land so I could have all kinds of animals. I want chickens, The Boy says no.
39. I'm super crafty but can't for the life of me figure out how to crochet or knit.
40. I have the attention span of a goldfish. It's okay, you can laugh. I would.
41. I sometimes have to hold back a laugh when the kids get hurt in some stupid way. It's a little mean, but sometimes it's super funny. Of course I see if they are alright first.
42. I blog because I suck at baby books. Never even bought one for Baby Big Girl because I knew I'd never use it.
43. I love swimming in the ocean.
44. I'm a cold person. I wear thermals almost everyday from November until March under my jeans.
45. The Boy is a hot person. It's practically unheard of for him to wear long sleeves.
46.
Nanners can do the splits. Both ways. She's been able to for as long as I can rememeber. She just did it one day because she seen a lady on TV do it. 47. My girls still sit and play dolls together. Even the big girls play. They of course are usually the Mom's or whatever else the leader is, but they play.
48. My girls love shoes. I have no idea where they get it from, but they adore them. The Boy doesn't understand why they have so many.
49. I once let Nanners and Spunky Girl eat peanut butter and jelly for dinner every single night for a month. I knew they'd eventually eat something else. The Boy called a stop to it after a month.
50. If we could do it again, The Boy and I both agree we would rather not have as big of a ceremony and take a double honeymoon instead.

Crazy sleeping
My girls inherited their crazy sleeping genes from their Dad. Definitely not me. You see, my family and I generally don't sleep. Insomnia - yep it's what we got! I can literally lay awake for hours at night, running over random things such as Christmas presents, what we'll have for dinner, who will be invited, and what will be our family ornament this year. On top of that I'll actually get up and try to figure these things out, no wonder I'm always tired!
My girls however are like their Dad, they can fall asleep in just moments and sleep through just about everything. Seriously, at our church bazaar, Baby Big Girl fell asleep and slept through the last two hours, including us vacuuming next to her, then continued sleeping through the 5 minute car ride home, and return to sleep for another 30 minutes after arriving home. Waking up just as I was getting ready to lay down myself. UGH!
The girls will wander off and crash somewhere for a few hours. I have proof...

Please, may I have a clone?
I'm absolutely worn out and I would like to call in the replacement. The back up. The clone - whatever you wanna call it. I'm ready for a nap, followed up with a cozy chair and good book. No screaming from anyone, including myself.
Seriously what is going on lately? They kids are practically out of control. By what these standards are that I make this statement you wonder - coloring on one's self, or sister with various markers, then proceeding to color on the walls, followed by throwing a shoe at your sister and nearly breaking the very large, very heavy frame your mom loves and you are not allowed to touch, locating the only bag of marshmallows in the house and eating them, also feeding them to younger sister (so you won't have to take all of the blame yourself), not helping clean or do any chores - really do I need to go on? Just fill any void with some bickering and hitting of each sibling.
Have you ever had one of those days when you just want to get something on your list crossed off, but yet it seems that the powers that be won't allow it?
Yep, that pretty much sums up the day. Full without actually getting anything done. Crap, more on tomorrow's list.

Disneyland Recap #1

Disneyland is truely the happiest place on Earth, hmmm, well maybe it's the happiest place most of the time, lol. The girls managed to each find a reason to bicker with a sister while we were there. Ahh, such is life.
Overall we had a fantastic time. The first day we were there we headed to Critter Country and met up with Eeyore and Pooh for some great pictures. The girls were very excited to see the characters close up.
We were so excited to finally be in Disneyland that we only took one break all day. We went back to the hotel for a quick break and to move our luggage into the hotel room. We rushed right back to Disneyland, eating while we walked. :) A little crazy excited right? YES!!
Knowing that we were going to be there for a week meant that we didn't feel like we had to rush anything. It was so nice to let the kids run around Tarzan's Treehouse and Tom Sawyer's Island for as long as they wanted. They LOVED it all! It was hilarious watching them run as fast as they could for a few feet, then stop to let Baby Big Girl catch up.

Family Fun
The last five days have been a whirl wind of kids, chaos, and my attempting to control it all. Now, by no means do we have a large house, and this week it felt smaller than ever. With family from out of town, family in town, and friends visiting all at the same time space becomes very important. We had our usual 7, plus my brother and his family (6), plus our our of town guest (3), plus a few friends (3) and my Mom who is a regular around here.
Chaos is what I called it, especially since the majority of those 19 were children. Children that when together in a group can tear down Mount Rushmore in mere minutes and fill the Grand Canyon with their laundry. I struggled to stay afloat of the dishes and laundry each morning. Mid way through the week I gave up on washing our houses clothes and instead focused on towels, sheets, and our guest laundry. This still meant 2 - 3 loads daily.
We went bowling up at Country Club lanes since my nephew said that he wanted to go. Four vehicles, 6 car seats, extra socks for everyone, four bowling lanes, 19 pairs of shoes and a bunch of bowling balls - we were set.
The kids had a great time, they all of course had to choose their own ball. The younger kids used a ramp to get the ball down the lane, along with bumpers to block the gutters. They were so excited to see the balls knocking over the pins. Ayden was especially impressed with them falling, he would throw his hands in the air every time and shout "YAY!".
Each kid bowled at least one strike, most of them more than that. The men all bowled together, which was great for us, less competition! :) All in all everyone had a great time bowling together.
Afterwards we took over the Del Taco across the street. They have 39 cent tacos, and we needed LOTS of them to feed everyone. We started off with 50 tacos, and ended up grabbing a dozen more. The staff there was great, they were super fast getting our food to us, which when you have that many kids you really appreciate that! Quick, easy and filling! Plus it made everyone happy, including the adults who managed to feed everyone for less than $60. A perfect wrap up to the day!
